Uzbekistan, China Expand Hydropower Cooperation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — JSC Uzbekgidroenergo and China Huaneng Group signed a memorandum of cooperation at the Fifth Tashkent International Investment Forum, providing for the implementation of promising investment projects in Uzbekistan's hydropower sector.
The document was signed by Azimjon Akhmadjanov, First Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of JSC Uzbekgidroenergo, and the leadership of one of China's largest energy corporations. The agreement is aimed at developing a long-term strategic partnership and bringing advanced international expertise to the country's hydropower industry.
The main purpose of the memorandum is to support the implementation of major hydropower projects provided for under the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated 1 May 2026 "On Urgent Measures for the Further Development of the Hydropower Sector," as well as to accelerate the modernisation of the industry and improve the efficiency of meeting its objectives.
During the talks, the parties discussed prospects for introducing modern engineering solutions, innovative technologies and international best practices in hydropower. Particular attention was given to issues of sustainable development in the sector, increasing generating capacity and strengthening the country's energy security.
The signing of the memorandum marks a further step in strengthening Uzbek-Chinese cooperation in the energy sector and opens up new opportunities for implementing large-scale projects aimed at developing renewable energy sources and improving the efficiency of water resource use.
