Uzbekistan and UNIDO Agree to Establish Green Technology Hub
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Deputy Minister of Investment, Industry, and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Akram Aliyev, made a working visit to the capital of Austria, Vienna.
During the trip, which took place between 22 and 24 June 2026, the head of the Uzbek delegation conducted a series of intensive negotiations with high-ranking representatives of the Austrian government, executives of leading transnational corporations, and key international institutions. The visit was aimed at strengthening bilateral trade and economic cooperation and attracting advanced European technologies to the economy of the republic.
One of the central events of the visit was a round table dedicated to the development of business partnerships. The discussion was attended by Austria's Deputy Minister of Finance Andreas Reichhardt, official representative of the Ministry of Economy, Energy, and Tourism Elisabeth Weissebäck, as well as the leadership of the University of Leoben.
Representing Austrian business at the meeting was the top management of major companies such as BPG, Scotty Group, Leitner Ropeways, Fedaja, Frequentis, and ILF. The participants discussed in detail the prospects for implementing joint investment projects in the mining industry, transport sector, infrastructure development, and the introduction of innovative technologies.
A significant practical outcome of the visit was the negotiations between Akram Aliyev and the Deputy Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Fatou Haidara. Following the meeting, the parties signed a Joint Declaration providing for the establishment of a Regional Green Industrial Technologies Hub in Uzbekistan. This step will allow the republic to become a key center for the implementation of environmentally friendly and energy-efficient solutions in Central Asia.
In addition, the Uzbek delegation participated in an international forum marking the 50th anniversary of the OPEC Fund for International Development. On the sidelines of this major event, the Deputy Minister of Investment, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan held a bilateral working meeting with the Vice President of the fund, Shaima Al-Shaibi. The sides reviewed the current portfolio of joint projects and consolidated new strategic agreements aimed at expanding financial and investment interaction.
