Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan Aim to Double Trade by 2030

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The 12th meeting of the Joint Kyrgyz-Uzbek Intergovernmental Commission on Bilateral Cooperation took place in Cholpon-Ata on 23 June 2026. The talks were co-chaired by the Head of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Adylbek Kasymaliev and the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov. Following the meeting, the parties signed a corresponding protocol.

Participants noted the consistent expansion of political, trade, and economic cooperation between the two countries, the active promotion of joint projects in the investment, energy, cultural, and humanitarian spheres, and the development of interregional interaction.

Adylbek Kasymaliev emphasized the steady growth of bilateral trade, noting that by the end of 2025, trade turnover exceeded US$1 billion, increasing by 19 percent compared to 2024, and doubling over the past five years. The parties set a goal to bring the volume of mutual trade to US$2 billion by 2030.

The Kyrgyz side proposed to focus on industrial cooperation, the creation of joint industrial parks and logistics complexes, and the development of mechanisms for state support of such projects. In addition, it was proposed to form a joint interdepartmental working group on the agro-industrial cooperation program until 2030. The issue of intensifying the activities of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek Development Fund and increasing its authorized capital was also raised.

Transport and energy cooperation occupied a separate place on the agenda. The parties confirmed their commitment to implementing the "China — Kyrgyzstan — Uzbekistan" railway project, designed to become a modern "Silk Road" of the 21st century, as well as continuing coordination on the construction of the Kambarata HPP-1.

The Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov stated that the negotiations were aimed at implementing concrete projects in the interests of both peoples, and confirmed the readiness of the Uzbek side for further cooperation.
