Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Minister of Economy and Finance Jamshid Kuchkarov held a meeting with a delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) led by the organization's Senior Vice President Yoshifumi Yoshikawa.

At the talks, held on 18 June 2026, the sides discussed the current state and priority directions of long-term bilateral cooperation.

The Japanese delegation also included Kenichi Kono, Director of the Central Asia and Caucasus Department, and Mamoru Sakai, Head of the JICA Office in Uzbekistan. The Uzbek side was represented by Deputy Ministers of Economy and Finance Otabek Fazilkarimov and Umid Abidkhadjaev, as well as heads of relevant departments.

The practical result of the meeting was the signing of a package of agreements on financing two large-scale programs implemented with the participation of the Japanese agency.

The agreements cover the projects "Enhancing Energy Efficiency in Social Buildings" and "Increasing Energy Efficiency in Industrial Enterprises." These initiatives are aimed at integrating modern energy-saving solutions into the educational and medical institutions of the republic, as well as supporting the modernization of the manufacturing sector through the introduction of concessional lending and financing mechanisms.

During the further discussion, the meeting participants reviewed in detail the mechanisms for supporting the socio-economic development of Uzbekistan and prospects for expanding technical assistance programs by JICA.

The officials agreed to maintain a systematic dialogue to ensure the effective implementation of the approved plans and accelerate the development of new promising joint projects.
