Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and China have agreed on further steps to expand cooperation in the transport sector. During a meeting in China, Uzbek Transport Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov and Chinese Transport Minister Liu Wei discussed the development of international transport and air services between the two countries, Uzbekistan’s Transport Ministry said.
The sides discussed opportunities to increase road freight volumes, improve conditions for national carriers and enhance the efficiency of transport and logistics links.
Particular attention was paid to civil aviation. The participants discussed increasing the number of flights between cities in Uzbekistan and China, expanding flight routes, and creating additional opportunities for passenger and cargo transportation.
Following the meeting, the sides signed a Protocol on Amendments and Additions to the Agreement between the governments of Uzbekistan and China on international road transport.
The document is aimed at improving the legal framework for international road transportation and creating additional conditions for its development.
The implementation of the protocol is expected to expand opportunities for carriers from both countries, improve the efficiency of existing transport routes and reduce administrative barriers. The document is also expected to create additional conditions for increasing bilateral and transit cargo flows.
The sides also highlighted the importance of transport cooperation for developing international corridors connecting China with Central Asian countries and other regions.
Following the talks, Uzbekistan and China confirmed their interest in consistently expanding practical cooperation and agreed to continue joint work to implement the agreements reached.
