Uzbekistan and ADB to strengthen waste management cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The leadership of the Waste Management and Circular Economy Development Agency of Uzbekistan held a meeting with a delegation from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), which arrived in the republic as part of the implementation of projects to modernize water and urban infrastructure.

The negotiations were attended by Sharifbek Hasanov, director of the relevant state agency, and the head of the mission, Ms. Jingmin Huang, director of the water and urban development sector of the ADB Sector Department.

During the meeting, the parties conducted a detailed audit of the current state of joint investment programs implemented by the agency with the financial and expert support of the Asian Development Bank.

The diplomats and specialists discussed the progress of current obligations, analyzed interim results, and outlined strategic plans for launching new promising projects aimed at the deep processing of solid domestic waste.

A special emphasis during the discussion was placed on the comprehensive development of the environmental sector in the regions of Uzbekistan. The negotiation participants emphasized the need for the accelerated introduction of modern infrastructural solutions on the ground and the systematic adoption of advanced international experience in the field of the circular economy.

Following the meetings, Sharifbek Hasanov and Jingmin Huang reached an official agreement to continue the long-term, productive partnership and to jointly prepare project documentation for new environmental initiatives.
