Tashkent Introduces Special Fire Safety Regime Until 15 September

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A special fire safety regime is being introduced in Tashkent due to a sharp increase in fire hazards during the summer period, which will last until 15 September of this year.

This step is regulated by an official decision issued by the Khokim of the capital, Shavkat Umurzakov, on 22 June 2026.

According to the approved document, the city's Department of Emergency Situations, in close cooperation with district khokimyats and relevant agencies, has been instructed to significantly intensify preventive work, assess the effectiveness of current fire safety measures, and immediately eliminate any safety violations in residential areas and at industrial facilities.

As part of these activities, a large-scale door-to-door campaign based on the "khonadonbay" principle will be organized in mahallas to explain safety rules to citizens. Simultaneously, specialized services will conduct a comprehensive inspection of the condition of electrical and gas networks, ventilation, chimneys, and water heaters in the residential housing stock.

A separate emphasis will be placed on checking air conditioning units and stopping the use of homemade fuses or automatic circuit breakers with excessively high current ratings.

The city's municipal services have received orders to conduct an audit of all fire hydrants and specialized water reservoirs to ensure the prompt repair of malfunctioning units.

In locations recorded as having a shortage of fire-fighting water supplies, mandatory round-the-clock duty for street-washing machines and water tankers will be introduced. Furthermore, major inspections are ahead for the city's markets, shopping centers, and entertainment complexes.

The responsible agencies will inspect all electrical infrastructure, including transformers and distribution boards, to ensure compliance with actual loads.

The document introduces a strict ban on the use of household liquefied petroleum gas cylinders for cooking in markets and food service outlets, and places a veto on the illegal connection of commercial establishments to gas distribution networks.

The restrictions will also affect the city's fueling stations during peak heat hours. Specifically, between 11:00 and 17:00, a strict ban is imposed on the transportation, unloading, and loading of fuel by heavy-duty vehicles at gasoline and propane filling stations. In parallel, joint teams from the Main Department of Internal Affairs, the Department of Emergency Situations, and municipal services will carry out the forced removal of barriers and other unauthorized artificial structures in the courtyards of multi-story buildings and inner-mahalla driveways if they obstruct free access for fire-rescue equipment and ambulances.

Additionally, city services have been tasked with promptly clearing open public spaces of accumulated household waste and dry grass, as well as paying increased attention to the fire safety of children at the 47 schools across the capital operating day camps during the summer period.
