Statistics Committee Names Most Populous Districts and Cities

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Demographic indicators of the Republic of Uzbekistan continue to demonstrate stable growth. According to fresh statistical data provided by the National Committee on Statistics, as of 1 April 2026, the total permanent population of the country approached 38.4 million people.

Based on the collected data, the agency formed a list of the 10 largest administrative-territorial units — cities and districts of the republic — that recorded the highest number of residents.

According to the published demographic ranking, the city of Namangan became the absolute leader in terms of population among regional centers, where the number of permanent residents reached 731,300 people.

The second line is firmly held by Samarkand, where 607,600 citizens are registered. The top three largest territories is completed by the Urgut district of the Samarkand Region, which leads among rural and suburban districts with a figure of 588,600 people.

The city of Andijan is located in fourth place, the population of which surpassed the half-million mark and amounted to 506,000 residents, while the fifth position was taken by the Denov district of the Surxondarya Region, where 442,700 people reside.

The second half of the leading top 10 is represented mainly by densely populated capital districts and large agro-industrial regions. Thus, sixth place belongs to the Olmazor district of Tashkent, where the population size was recorded at 419,600 people.

Following are the Pastdargom district of the Samarkand Region with an indicator of 401,500 residents and another administrative district of the capital — Yunusobod, which has 395,000 permanent citizens.

Closing the top 10 are the Shayxontohur district of the city of Tashkent, where 374,600 people live, and the Asaka district of the Andijan Region, the population size of which stands at 369,600 residents.
