Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Sodiq Safoyev met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom to Uzbekistan Timothy Smart, who is completing his diplomatic mission in the country.
The meeting discussed the state and prospects of Uzbek-British comprehensive partnership relations. The sides noted a significant intensification of interparliamentary and political dialogue, as well as cooperation in trade and economic, investment and education spheres.
Particular emphasis was placed on the Declaration on Comprehensive Partnership adopted in 2024 and the Joint Declaration signed in February 2026 as a foundation for elevating bilateral relations to the level of a strategic partnership.
Infrastructure, green energy, critical minerals and agriculture were identified among the priority areas for practical cooperation.
Education was also a key topic of the discussion. The sides considered expanding joint programs, opening branches of leading British universities in Uzbekistan, training teaching professionals and improving the quality of English language instruction.
Following the meeting, the sides confirmed their readiness to further intensify interparliamentary dialogue and implement the agreements reached in practical terms.
