Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviews new sheep breeding cluster in Namangan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Turakurgan district as part of his visit to the Namangan region, where he reviewed in detail the production capacities and long-term development strategy of the newly established Namangan sheep breeding cluster.

The legal and economic basis for launching this large-scale project was the presidential decree "On additional measures of state support for the livestock industry" dated 29 January 2020.

The high-tech agricultural complex, with a total value of US$35 million, will expand across an area of 10 hectares. The project is being implemented in three stages. At the current first stage, the investor is ensuring the import of 15,000 head of breeding sheep from abroad.

During the second stage, the livestock population will be increased by another 35,000 head. The key feature of the cluster is its focus on breeding highly productive and hardy breeds — Arashan, Gissar, and Edilbay — which will undergo a process of controlled adaptation to the climatic conditions of the Ferghana Valley.

The innovative business model relies on intensive fattening methods and a scientific approach to veterinary medicine. Young stock arriving at the enterprise with a live weight of 40–50 kilograms will be switched to a balanced diet for three months, which will allow the weight of the animal to reach 100 kilograms, ensuring a net meat yield at the level of 60–70 kilograms.

Thanks to this technology, the overall productivity of the complex will increase by 45–50 percent compared to the standard indicators of traditional farms. Upon reaching its design capacity, the cluster will supply 35,000–40,000 tons of high-quality meat to the domestic market annually.

In addition to the industrial bloc, the structure of the project includes the formation of an end-to-end logistics chain, the opening of a network of veterinary and service points, as well as the launch of its own branded outlets for the direct sale of meat products to consumers without intermediaries.

The social impact will be reflected in the creation of 280 permanent jobs and the involvement of members of 95 low-income families in the district in operational activities.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev highly praised the potential of the enterprise, calling its model exemplary for saturating the country's food market, and instructed relevant agencies to prepare a plan for scaling this experience to other regions of the republic.
