Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviews construction of new Namangan airport terminal
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived on a working visit to the Namangan region. The first object on the itinerary of the head of state was the construction site of the new passenger terminal at Namangan International Airport.
The project for the expansion and deep modernization of the air harbor is being implemented within the framework of a large-scale state program to reform the country's transport infrastructure and develop public-private partnership (PPP) mechanisms.
Construction work is being carried out in strict accordance with the presidential decree "On measures to develop public-private partnership in the field of airport management in the republic" dated 29 March 2021. Namangan airport, which has been functioning since 1971 and received international status in 2013, currently serves regular flights of nine airlines. However, current capacities no longer meet the growing demand, which required the attraction of large investments amounting to US$175 million for the comprehensive reconstruction of the facility.
According to the approved schedule, the new three-story passenger terminal with a total area of 22,600 square meters will be officially commissioned by the end of 2026. The modern complex will be able to serve more than 1,200 passengers per hour, and its total throughput capacity will reach 3 million people per year, which exceeds current figures several times over.
The terminal halls provide for the placement of high-tech border and customs control zones, a visa service, a business lounge, Duty Free shops, as well as catering facilities and a medical post. The launch of the facility will allow for the creation of 550 new permanent jobs.
The second stage of modernization will be the construction of a cargo terminal with a capacity of 50 tons of cargo per day, the launch of which is scheduled for the end of 2027. This cargo complex will form a single logistical ecosystem for the entire Ferghana Valley, opening up operational access for local producers to the export markets of 90 countries.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev studied the current pace of construction and installation works in detail and gave relevant officials a number of specific instructions on further improving the engineering and service infrastructure of the aviation hub.
