Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Mirzo-Ulugbek District Prosecutor's Office in Tashkent has opened a criminal case into possible fraud following the transfer of a lonely pensioner's apartment to another person. The investigation was launched under an article on particularly large-scale fraud.

The review was prompted by a video circulating on social media in which an elderly woman claimed she was locked in her apartment without access to water, food, or the ability to go outside. She also alleged that social workers had shut off the cold and hot water supply and turned off her gas stove.

Earlier, the press service of the Mirzo-Ulugbek district khokimiyat reported that the pensioner is included in the "Step to Active Life" program, receiving financial assistance and in-home social services.

The district administration denied claims that a social worker had not visited the woman for two weeks, stating that visits are conducted according to an approved schedule, the water was not shut off, and the key to the apartment was held by the pensioner herself, who the khokimiyat suggested may have forgotten about it due to age-related memory impairment.

The statement also noted that a second set of keys is kept by the assigned social worker, the use of the pensioner's bank card is monitored through an electronic system, and an additional medical examination has been scheduled for the woman.

On 30 July, the prosecutor's office announced preliminary results of the review.

According to the agency, the woman, born in 1940, is registered at a dispensary with several medical conditions.

It was established that in late September 2025, the apartment belonging to her was transferred to another person under a notarized purchase and sale agreement.
