Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Pakistani construction company Habib Rafiq Engineering Pvt. Ltd has begun implementing an investment project to develop a new urban district in Khiva based on smart city principles, Dunyo reports.
The project envisages expanding Khiva’s territory and developing modern urban infrastructure based on contemporary approaches to urban planning.
The initiative includes the phased construction of residential complexes, social and commercial facilities, transport and engineering infrastructure, utilities and other facilities.
The company plans to apply its experience from the construction of major urban and infrastructure projects in Pakistan. The project is expected to introduce new elements of modern urban infrastructure in Khiva.
The initiative follows lengthy negotiations between the company and the Khorezm Region administration, with the assistance of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Islamabad.
Representatives of Habib Rafiq Engineering, supported by Uzbek diplomats, visited Khorezm Region several times to study sites proposed for the new urban district.
At the end of August, the company and the Khorezm Region administration signed a memorandum on implementing the project.
