Colombia beats Ghana to secure final World Cup last-16 spot

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Colombia national football team secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Ghana in their FIFA World Cup Round of 32 match to advance to the next stage of the tournament. The encounter took place in Kansas City.

The only goal of the match was scored in the 14th minute by Jhon Arias.

Forward Jhon Cordoba, who plays for the Russian club Krasnodar, was named in the starting lineup for Colombia. However, he sustained an injury early in the match and was substituted. Luis Suarez came onto the pitch to replace him in the 8th minute.

With this victory, Colombia became the final team to secure a place in the Round of 16 of the World Cup. In the next stage of the tournament, the South American team will face Switzerland, which previously defeated Algeria 2-0. The match is scheduled to take place on 7 July 2026 in Vancouver.

The FIFA World Cup is being held across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and will conclude on 19 July 2026. Argentina is the reigning winner of the tournament.
