Belarus and Uzbekistan to expand joint projects

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus has discussed the further development of Belarusian-Uzbek cooperation and the implementation of joint projects during a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Belarus Nuriddin Mamajonov, the press service of the Belarusian Council of the Republic reported.

Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova noted that relations between the two countries are friendly and actively developing across various spheres. According to her, Belarus and Uzbekistan cooperate on international platforms and provide mutual support.

Kochanova identified the economy, education, healthcare, youth policy, and historical policy as key areas of interaction. She also recalled that during the visit of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Belarus on 8–9 July, the countries signed a declaration establishing a strategic partnership.

One of the main tasks of bilateral relations remains increasing mutual trade to US$2 billion by 2030. Kochanova emphasized the need to implement existing agreements and ensure the achievement of the set target.

The Uzbek ambassador stated that relations between the two countries stand at a high level and possess significant potential for further development. Nuriddin Mamajonov highlighted trade and economic cooperation as a priority direction.

According to him, the sides expect to reach the targeted trade turnover figure ahead of schedule. The ambassador expressed confidence that the US$2 billion threshold could be achieved within the next year and a half.

Special attention was given to interregional interaction. According to Mamajonov, visit schedules for regional leaders of both countries have been finalized. By the end of October, nearly all regions of Uzbekistan are scheduled to visit Belarus to discuss new projects, including those aimed at developing industrial cooperation.

During the meeting, the officials also discussed holding the Belarusian-Uzbek Interparliamentary Forum, which is scheduled for 29–30 September in Khiva.

Additionally, participants reviewed projects implemented with the participation of enterprises from both countries in Belarusian regions, particularly in the Vitebsk and Gomel regions.

The sides discussed nearly all major areas of bilateral cooperation and expressed interest in further expanding interaction. According to Mamajonov, the meeting is expected to give a new impetus to the development of relations between Belarus and Uzbekistan.
