Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Bananas and papayas have begun growing in a greenhouse covering one sotka, or 100 square meters, in Rishtan district, Ferghana region, the Ferghana regional administration reported.

A farm operated by Nodirjon Makhmudov in the Yukori Avazboy mahalla has established the cultivation of bananas, papayas and other tropical fruits. Although these crops are typically associated with tropical climates, they are developing well in Rishtan's conditions.

Fruit has already formed on the banana and papaya plants. The first harvest is expected in approximately one month.

The farm's experience demonstrates the potential for using small plots efficiently to grow market-demanded products and create an additional source of income for families.

Similar initiatives also contribute to the development of new areas of greenhouse farming and improve the economic efficiency of household plots.
