Volkswagen Officialy Enters Uzbek Automotive Market
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Automotive group Volkswagen has announced its official entry into the market of Uzbekistan, forming part of the company's long-term strategy to develop new fast-growing regions, Volkswagen reports.
This step is notable because the export direction for the Volkswagen and Jetta brands in the republic is fully managed for the first time by the Chinese division of the group and is supplied with vehicles manufactured in the People's Republic of China, the group notes.
A solemn launch event took place at an international forum in Tashkent, with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and Volkswagen China CEO Robert Cisek attending as guests of honor.
Uzbekistan, which has a population exceeding 38 million people, represents one of the most dynamically developing automotive markets in Central Asia. Since 2021, demand for vehicles in the republic has more than doubled, exceeding the mark of 461,000 units by the end of 2025.
Martin Sander, Board Member for Sales, Marketing and After Sales at Volkswagen Passenger Cars, emphasized that entering this region allows the company to combine access to a promising market with the efficient use of its powerful manufacturing base. At the presentation in Tashkent, the automaker demonstrated a lineup of models, including vehicles from the Jetta brand, as well as the Tiguan L Pro, Passat Pro, and Teramont Pro from Volkswagen Passenger Cars.
To tap into the market potential, the German brand intends to progressively expand its presence in the country. By the end of the current year, vehicle sales will start at 13 dealerships, and the partner network is planned to nearly double by 2028. The next strategic phase of work will be localization: in cooperation with the local company Alyans Auto, the launch of a production facility for semi-knocked-down (SKD) vehicle assembly will begin in Tashkent this year.
In the future, Volkswagen intends to use similar expansion models and evaluate opportunities to expand its presence in the CIS countries, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and selected African states.
