Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s U-23 Olympic football team failed to reach the Asian Games final after losing to Japan on penalties in the semifinal.
Uzbekistan opened the scoring in the eighth minute. Sardorbek Bakhramov received a pass from the left flank and sent the ball into Japan’s net.
Japan equalised in the 88th minute through Sena Ishibashi.
The 90 minutes ended 1-1, and neither side was able to change the score during extra time.
Japan then prevailed in the penalty shootout, winning 9-8.
In the other semifinal, South Korea defeated China 2-1 to reach the Asian Games final.
Uzbekistan will therefore face China in the bronze-medal match.
The final and bronze-medal match will be played on 3 October.
