Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan will require medical and pharmaceutical workers to obtain state registration in their respective specialties before practising professionally from 1 January 2030, the country's Ministry of Justice said.

Registration will be valid for five years, after which specialists must complete the procedure again. The rules were approved by Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 577, dated 19 October 2026.

The resolution establishes procedures for registering medical and pharmaceutical professionals, including the submission of applications, admission to a special examination and the issuance of registration certificates. The Centre for Qualification Assessment of Medical and Pharmaceutical Workers has been designated as the authorised body responsible for the process.

From 1 January 2030, specialists who have not obtained state registration in their respective fields will no longer be permitted to practise medicine or pharmacy in those specialties.

A transitional period will run from 1 July 2027 to 1 January 2030. During this period, registration will be voluntary and available either through the results of a special examination or automatically when a professional qualification category is awarded.

An exemption from the examination is предусмотрено for certain specialists. Medical and pharmaceutical workers with at least 20 years of experience in their specialty and an academic degree will be eligible for state registration without taking the special examination.

However, the exemption will not apply to those who have not continuously practised in their specialty for three or more years at the time of application.

Applications for registration can be submitted through public service centres, the Unified Portal of Interactive Public Services or the Medical Qualification Platform. Online applications will be accepted around the clock, including on weekends and public holidays.

The authorised body will review each applicant's questionnaire within five working days and decide whether to admit the applicant to the special examination.

State registration certificates will be issued electronically. Their authenticity can be verified through the Unified Electronic Register of Medical and Pharmaceutical Professionals. Paper originals and duplicate paper certificates will not be issued.

To maintain their right to practise professionally, specialists will have to renew their state registration every five years.

The resolution will enter into force three months after its official publication.
