Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan will hold a national youth nuclear dialogue on 8 October as part of the international Impact Team 2050 program, according to a program press release.
National youth dialogues are being held from 1 September to 30 October in 15 countries. School students, university students, young scientists and early-career professionals are taking part. Participants discuss access to knowledge and practical training, career opportunities and public trust in nuclear technologies.
The proposals collected during the dialogues are expected to form part of a roadmap aimed at increasing the appeal of the nuclear industry and related professions.
The first meetings under the program were held in Kazakhstan in September. A national dialogue took place in Jakarta on 22 September, followed by a meeting in Cairo on 24 September.
In Indonesia, 60 school students, university students and young scientists from 10 universities and schools participated. Discussions focused on the use of nuclear technologies in agriculture, as well as research and innovation.
In Cairo, the first national youth nuclear dialogue brought together 53 medical students and medical interns from Greater Cairo. Participants discussed the use of nuclear technologies in medicine, radiation safety, physical protection and professional specialization.
A preliminary survey of 108 medical students and interns found that 60% of respondents considered a lack of information the main obstacle to choosing a specialization in nuclear medicine.
Another 37% cited a lack of practical training, while 36% pointed to unclear career prospects and pathways to specialization. At the same time, 62% said that additional knowledge about nuclear medicine would make them more willing to consider it as a career field.
Further dialogues are scheduled in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan on 8 October, Ethiopia and South Africa on 14 October, Armenia on 15 October, Brazil and Serbia on 16 October, Hungary on 19 October and Rwanda on 30 October. The second part of the dialogue in Egypt will take place on 15 October.
The proposals developed through the international program will form the basis of a roadmap identifying barriers to choosing careers in the nuclear industry and recommendations for overcoming them.
The document is expected to be presented at a meeting with the CEO of Rosatom during the UN Climate Change Conference COP31, which will be held in Antalya from 9 to 20 November 2026.
