Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s Tax Committee has confirmed that employees of the Karshi city Tax Inspectorate used 122.6 million soums received from taxpayers as tax payments for other purposes.
According to an official statement by the Tax Committee, an internal investigation into the responsible employees of the inspectorate was conducted by the Compliance and Anti-Corruption Control Department of the Kashkadarya Regional Tax Administration. The investigation was organized based on an order issued by the administration on 31 July 2026.
The investigation found that between 2023 and 2026, employees of the inspectorate received money from 97 citizens. The total amount of the payments was 122.6 million soums.
According to the Tax Committee, the citizens handed over the money to be deposited as tax payments. However, the employees used counterfeit payment documents, including receipts, and the funds were not credited to the taxpayers’ personal accounts.
Instead, the internal investigation found that the employees used the money for personal purposes.
The internal investigation report and collected materials were sent to the Kashkadarya Regional Prosecutor’s Office for a legal assessment. The documents were submitted by letter No. 37-119671 of the regional Tax Administration dated 7 September 2026.
Thus, the Tax Committee confirmed earlier information circulated on social media about violations by tax authorities’ employees in Kashkadarya region, while clarifying the circumstances of the internal investigation and the transfer of the materials to the prosecutor’s office.
