Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A delegation from Uzbekistan is taking part in the first International Space Summit, being held at the Grand Palais in Paris on 9–10 September at the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron.
Uzbekistan is represented by Bobur Khodjaev, head of the Department of Financial Technologies, Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan, and Digital Technologies Minister Sherzod Shermatov.
The summit focuses on the future of the space industry. Participants are discussing international cooperation, the development of the space economy, science and technology, as well as the security and sustainability of space activities.
Representatives of 90 countries and international organisations are attending the event, including around 60 heads of state and government, ministers, representatives of space agencies, astronauts, experts and startups. More than 1,000 leading space industry companies are represented at the summit.
Participants are examining current challenges facing the space industry, possible ways to address them jointly, and opportunities to exchange best practices and knowledge. Particular attention is being paid to strengthening international cooperation and creating conditions for the sustainable development of space activities.
The summit has featured roundtables on “New Space for a Rapidly Changing World”, “Space Security: Europe’s Response” and “Vision for Future Space Infrastructure”. Panel discussions have also been held on the global space economy, security and cooperation, as well as science and research.
Nineteen prominent astronauts from 14 countries have arrived in Paris. They include French astronaut Thomas Pesquet; Italians Samantha Cristoforetti and Luca Parmitano; Germans Alexander Gerst and Matthias Maurer; UAE astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi; and Turkish astronaut Alper Gezeravci.
The broad range of participants provides opportunities to exchange views on the current state and prospects of the space industry, discuss new opportunities and establish contacts for future cooperation.
A ceremony welcoming the astronauts was also held as part of the summit. French President Emmanuel Macron attended the event.
