Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and Romania plan to expand cooperation in technical regulation, including standardization, metrology, certification and the removal of technical barriers to trade, Uzbekistan’s Agency for Technical Regulation said.
Akmal Dzhumanazarov, director of the Agency for Technical Regulation, held a meeting with Daniel Cristian Ciobanu, Romania’s ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Uzbekistan.
The parties discussed prospects for cooperation in conformity assessment, market surveillance and product safety. Particular attention was paid to removing technical barriers that could affect the development of bilateral trade.
The meeting noted that trade and economic relations between Uzbekistan and Romania continued to develop. Bilateral trade reached US$90.6 million in 2025.
The participants also discussed training and professional development for specialists in technical regulation, the exchange of professional expertise, the development of modern laboratories, and improvements to mechanisms for assessing product safety and conducting market surveillance.
Another area of discussion was cooperation on technical requirements and conformity assessment systems. The meeting noted that progress in this area was important for expanding exports of Uzbek textile and knitwear products to European markets.
Following the talks, the parties identified promising areas for new joint projects under European technical assistance programmes. They also noted the potential to introduce advanced European practices and move toward practical projects in technical regulation.
