Uzbekistan nominates candidacy for UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs for 2027

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Vienna hosted discussions on global efforts to combat drug addiction and trafficking during the 68th session of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs.

The event, attended by over 2,000 delegates from 164 countries and 20 international organizations, marked an important step in strengthening international cooperation in this field, according to the Dunyo news agency.

Uzbekistan’s delegation actively participated in the session, presenting the country's national strategy for 2024-2028 and officially nominating its candidacy for election to the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs in 2027. In their address, Uzbek representatives reaffirmed the country's commitment to combating illicit drug trafficking and emphasized the importance of international collaboration.

A key highlight was a side event organized by Uzbekistan, where the country showcased its efforts in preventing drug addiction among women, tackling drug-related crime in Afghanistan and Central Asia, and establishing specialized rehabilitation centers. Uzbek officials also shared insights into the implementation of effective preventive programs.

During the session, Uzbekistan’s delegation held meetings with representatives of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the European Union, and other international organizations. The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in the fight against transnational drug-related crime and exchanging best practices in rehabilitation and prevention.

Uzbekistan’s candidacy for the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs reflects the country's commitment to addressing global challenges and enhancing international security.
