Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A government delegation from the Republic of Uzbekistan, led by Deputy Minister of Investments, Industry and Trade Khurram Teshabaev, participated in the 20th annual meeting of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) held on 25–26 June 2026 in Almaty.
The summit marked a historic event for Tashkent, as Uzbekistan participated in the official events of this international financial institution for the first time in its status as a full shareholder.
During the EDB Council meeting, chaired by the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov and attended by the heads of the ministries of finance and economy of the member states, the financial institution's annual report for the past year was approved.
A major outcome of the meeting was the approval of the EDB Development Strategy for the 2027–2031 period. Strategic priorities initiated by the Uzbek side were officially included in this key program document.
These priorities include ensuring regional water and energy security, accelerating the expansion of international transport corridors, and deepening industrial cooperation, which aligns with the goals of the Uzbekistan-2030 national strategy.
On the sidelines of the Almaty summit, Khurram Teshabaev held bilateral talks with the Chairman of the EDB Management Board Nikolai Podguzov. The sides reviewed in detail a preliminary portfolio comprising 36 joint investment projects totaling approximately US$2.8 billion.
The stated funds are planned to be directed toward the modernization and development of the chemical, textile, light, and processing industries of Uzbekistan. In addition, investments will be allocated to creating modern digital infrastructure, medical projects, and developing the tourism industry.
During the dialogue, the sides also discussed organizational prospects for holding the next annual meeting of the bank in Tashkent in 2027, as well as the possibility of nominating a representative of Uzbekistan for the position of Chairman of the EDB Council.
