Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) —An international conference on the sustainability of pension systems amid demographic change and digital transformation was held in Samarkand on 27–28 October. Participants discussed the potential use of artificial intelligence, modern forecasting methods and closer cooperation among countries in the region.
The event brought together pension experts from six member states of the International Association of Pension and Social Funds (IAPSF): Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
One of the main topics was the changing demographic structure of populations and labour market trends affecting pension systems. Participants also examined the effectiveness of social security mechanisms and the sector’s readiness for socioeconomic changes over the next five to ten years.
Particular attention was given to medium- and long-term pension planning, demographic forecasting and the assessment of social security policy effectiveness.
As part of the digital agenda, experts explored how modern information technologies and artificial intelligence could be used for demographic forecasting, social analysis and pension system management. They also discussed the limitations and risks associated with introducing digital solutions.
Following the conference, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan agreed to expand cooperation in the pension sector. Uzbekistan’s off-budgetary Pension Fund under the Ministry of Economy and Finance and Kazakhstan’s Unified Accumulative Pension Fund signed a memorandum of cooperation.
A joint action plan was also approved between Uzbekistan’s Pension Fund and the State Social Protection Fund under Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Population.
The agreements are expected to promote the exchange of expertise and further cooperation in pension provision.
