Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis Nuriddin Ismoilov met with newly appointed Azerbaijani Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Uzbekistan Rashad Mammadov. The sides discussed the current state of parliamentary ties and prospects for their further development.
The meeting highlighted the importance of reciprocal visits by the two countries’ leaders in expanding bilateral cooperation.
In particular, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s working visit to Azerbaijan in May and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s state visit to Uzbekistan in August gave new impetus to relations of strategic partnership and alliance.
Mammadov expressed gratitude for the warm reception and noted that, thanks to the political will of the leaders of the two countries, Uzbek-Azerbaijani relations are consistently developing across various areas and acquiring new practical substance.
According to the ambassador, the signing of the Treaty of Eternal Friendship during Aliyev’s state visit to Uzbekistan was an important step toward further deepening multifaceted cooperation. The document is aimed at expanding mutually beneficial ties between the two countries.
The meeting also focused on interparliamentary cooperation. Mammadov noted that contacts between the legislative bodies of the two countries have intensified significantly in recent years. Regular dialogue, exchanges of experience and joint initiatives, he said, contribute to further strengthening bilateral relations.
The sides also reviewed the current state of cooperation between the parliaments of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan and opportunities for its further expansion.
The participants emphasized the importance of enhancing the role of parliaments in ensuring the effective implementation of agreements reached at the highest level, exchanging legislative experience and supporting initiatives that serve the interests of the peoples of the two countries.
The meeting was held in an open and friendly atmosphere.
