Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s Minister of Agriculture Ibrohim Abdurahmonov met with Afghanistan’s Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Ataullah Omari, who arrived in Tashkent to participate in international events taking place on 7–8 October, the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan said.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the current state of agricultural cooperation between the two countries and identified priority areas for further engagement.

Particular attention was paid to the development of cotton growing, seed production, horticulture and fruit and vegetable production. The sides also considered ways to expand mutual trade in agricultural products.

The participants also focused on personnel training. In particular, they discussed providing students with modern agricultural knowledge, improving the qualifications of farmers and specialists, and exchanging experience between specialised educational institutions in Uzbekistan and Afghanistan.

The sides noted the need to develop a specific systematic programme for improving the qualifications of specialists and farmers.

Following the meeting, the sides stressed the importance of further strengthening cooperation in agriculture, implementing new initiatives and practical projects, and expanding mechanisms for exchanging experience between the two countries.
