Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A delegation from Uzbekhydroenergo JSC, led by Chairman of the Management Board Islam Abdurakhmonov, visited the production facility of Kumsung Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd., a South Korean manufacturer of equipment for small and micro hydropower plants, during a working visit to the Republic of Korea.
During the visit, the delegation familiarized itself with the processes of designing, manufacturing and testing hydro units and hydropower equipment.
Particular attention was paid to innovative hydro units designed for the efficient use of low-head water flows, which are used at small and micro hydropower plants.
One of the key features of South Korea’s experience is the practice of testing equipment directly during the manufacturing process, with technical parameters monitored and efficiency assessed.
This approach was recognized as valuable for developing and improving hydropower engineering in Uzbekistan.
The delegation also visited the Baekjebo Hydropower Plant on the Geum River in South Korea. The plant, commissioned in 2011, is equipped with four hydro units with a combined capacity of 2.64 MW and generates electricity through the efficient use of the natural head and flow of water.
Kumsung E&C, founded in 1982, specializes in manufacturing equipment for the energy sector, including gates and hoists for irrigation and water supply systems, pumping equipment and automated water drainage devices.
The visit is part of Uzbekhydroenergo’s systematic efforts to study international experience and introduce advanced technologies.
In recent years, the number of hydropower plants in Uzbekistan has increased from 36 to 106, while the total installed hydropower capacity has reached 2.5 GW.
