Uzbek Ambassador Presents Credentials to Syrian Foreign Minister

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Syria, with residence in Kuwait, Ayubkhon Yunusov presented copies of his credentials to Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani.

The two sides discussed further development of political dialogue and trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, according to Daryo news agency.

During the meeting, the Syrian side emphasized the importance of developing relations with Central Asian countries, with Uzbekistan receiving particular attention. Syrian representatives noted that mutually beneficial contacts between the two countries have intensified recently, creating a foundation for further expanding cooperation.

A key issue discussed was the establishment of new mechanisms for bilateral cooperation. The sides considered creating an Uzbek-Syrian Intergovernmental Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation, as well as a mechanism for political consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries.

The participants also reviewed the implementation of other joint initiatives and exchanged views on key areas of bilateral relations.

Asaad al-Shaibani stressed Syria’s interest in consistently developing cooperation with Uzbekistan in all areas of mutual interest. He also noted that the Syrian side highly appreciates the assistance and support Uzbekistan has provided to Syria in previous years.

Damascus expressed readiness to intensify bilateral relations and facilitate consideration of proposals and initiatives put forward by the Uzbek side in various areas.

Following the talks, the sides reaffirmed their intention to continue developing Uzbek-Syrian relations. Key areas identified included political dialogue, mutual visits at high and highest levels, trade and economic cooperation, and other areas of mutual interest.
