Polina Kudermetova
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Representatives of Uzbekistan have achieved success at the Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament, securing berths in the main draw of the competition. Following the final matches of the qualification round, two Uzbek tennis players managed to break the resistance of their opponents and guaranteed their participation in the main stage of the prestigious grass-court major in London.
In the decisive confrontation of the qualification cycle, Polina Kudermetova demonstrated strong willpower in her match against Russian athlete Alina Charaeva. After dropping the opening set, Kudermetova turned the tide of the game and secured a confident victory in three sets with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.
Concurrently, another representative of Uzbekistan, Maria Timofeeva, contested a spot in the main draw against the experienced British tennis player Heather Watson. The match unfolded according to a similar scenario: Timofeeva lost the first set with a score of 3-6, but completely dominated the court in the subsequent two sets, concluding the meeting with a resounding comeback score of 6-2, 6-1.
Thus, three representatives of Uzbekistan will compete in the main draw of the world's most prestigious championship. As a reminder, the country's top seed, Kamilla Rakhimova, who currently occupies the 65th spot in the women's world rankings, was exempted from the qualification brackets and entered the main field of Wimbledon participants directly thanks to her high position in the WTA classifications.
