Tennis Festival at Tashkent Forum Promotes Social Cohesion

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A tennis festival titled “Generations United” was held at the Olympic City in Tashkent as part of the sports programme of the Tashkent International Investment Forum.

The event was organised by the Tennis Federation of Uzbekistan and ACWA Power, one of the country’s largest investors in renewable energy.

The initiative aims to strengthen intergenerational interaction, promote mentorship culture and reduce social isolation through sport. It is presented as a platform for social solidarity, exchange of experience and strengthening human connections.

The festival formed part of a special tennis tournament held within the framework of the forum with the support of the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Sports and the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan.

Participants included representatives of Uzbekistan, international delegates of the forum, youth and members of the older generation.

The “Generations United” project was launched in 2025 and is focused on addressing social challenges linked to loneliness and lack of communication between age groups.

Through participation in joint sporting and educational activities, the initiative promotes dialogue, mutual trust and knowledge transfer between generations.

The festival featured tennis masterclasses and the Generations United Tiebreak Slam tournament, where participants competed in a tie-break format designed to encourage informal interaction, teamwork and social bonding.

ACWA Power Uzbekistan Head John Zaidi said sustainable development is not possible without cooperation between generations.

“Experience and knowledge from the older generation combined with the energy and innovative thinking of youth create the foundation for sustainable development of society. The ‘Generations United’ project provides a platform where these qualities can complement each other effectively,” he said.

Deputy Chairman of the Tennis Federation of Uzbekistan Aziz Hamidov said tennis development now goes beyond sporting achievement.

“Sport has become an important tool for developing human capital, strengthening social ties and promoting a healthy lifestyle. Holding the festival within the framework of the Tashkent International Investment Forum gives the project additional significance by bringing together business representatives, international organisations and public institutions,” he said.

Organisers said the project is part of a broader corporate social responsibility programme by ACWA Power aimed at supporting local communities and creating long-term social impact.

They added that investment in human capital is considered an important element of sustainable development alongside large infrastructure and energy projects.

The festival was presented as an example of how international investment forums can serve not only as platforms for economic discussion but also for social initiatives aimed at improving quality of life and strengthening social unity.

The Tennis Federation of Uzbekistan and ACWA Power plan to expand the “Generations United” project with new programmes to promote sport, mentorship and broader community engagement across age groups.
