Tashkent Uncovers Illegal US$11 Million Crypto Trading

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Law enforcement authorities in Tashkent's Yunusabad district have uncovered the alleged illegal circulation of cryptoassets worth US$10.976 million during operational and preventive measures conducted as part of the "Safe and Healthy Country" campaign, the capital's Main Department of Internal Affairs said.

According to investigators, a 20-year-old native of the Samarkand region who had been living in Tashkent exchanged money allegedly obtained through criminal activity for cryptoassets. Investigators allege that he sought to conceal the origin of the funds, their beneficial owners and the movement of financial assets.

During a search of the suspect's temporary residence, law enforcement officers seized 24 mobile phones, 20 bank payment cards, a laptop and a Wi-Fi router. The items have been recognized as evidence in the case.

A criminal case has been opened under Article 278-8 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which establishes liability for violating legislation governing the circulation of cryptoassets. The investigation is ongoing.
