Tashkent Region to Modernize Public Transport in Six Cities

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Tashkent Region plans a comprehensive modernization of its public transport system in the cities of Yangiyul, Angren, Akhangaran, Almalyk, Nurafshan and Chirchiq. The project was presented to regional governor Zoir Mirzaev, the Tashkent Region administration said.

The project envisages upgrading public transport through modern management principles, optimizing the route network, improving the organization of transport corridors, and building modern bus stops and transport interchange hubs.

Following the comprehensive reorganization, the number of daily public transport passengers is expected to increase from 298,600 to 533,000. Daily ridership is projected to rise by 234,400 passengers, or 78.5%.

According to the presentation, the projected increase will be achieved not only through the purchase of new buses but also through a complete reorganization of the transport system using modern approaches, route optimization and digital management.

Under the project, information on trip operations, bus movements, passenger flows, service intervals and subsidies for routes operating under gross contracts will be managed through a unified digital register.

In addition, transport development forecasts for 2026, 2030 and 2035 will be prepared for the six cities, and a modern methodology for assessing public transport performance will be introduced.

The authorities expect these measures to create a safe, convenient, sustainable and modern public transport system in the major cities of Tashkent Region, improve travel conditions for residents and raise the quality of transport services.
