State Security Service and Law Enforcement Agencies of Uzbekistan Destroy Nearly Three Tons of Drugs
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A large-scale operation to destroy major consignments of illicit narcotics and psychotropic substances has been carried out in Uzbekistan.
As part of a systematic crackdown on cross-border drug trafficking, the State Security Service (SSS), in cooperation with other domestic law enforcement agencies, executed the liquidation of smuggled contraband.
A total of 2 tons 963 kilograms of narcotics and synthetic drugs were destroyed by incineration in specialized industrial furnaces.
Heavy drugs belonging to the opiate group and cannabinoids formed a significant share of the liquidated batch. Specifically, security forces destroyed 78 kilograms 368 grams of heroin and 426 kilograms 351 grams of opium. In addition, a substantial batch of hashish weighing a total of 646 kilograms 639 grams was consumed by fire.
These substances served as material evidence in a series of previously concluded criminal cases involving transit couriers and local distributors.
Law enforcement agencies are paying particular attention to intercepting the distribution of modern, highly hazardous synthetic drugs and potent pharmaceuticals, the seizure volumes of which have shown a recent upward trend.
During the event, 131 kilograms 370 grams of the designer drug Alpha-PVP, alongside 61 kilograms 954 grams of mephedrone, were eliminated. Furthermore, a batch of the pharmaceutical drug pregabalin totaling 69 kilograms 255 grams was liquidated, along with several other psychoactive substances restricted from free circulation.
