Share of Renewable Energy in Uzbekistan's Mix Exceeds 45%
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — As of 15:00 on 24 June 2026, the share of renewable energy sources (RES) in the structure of electricity generation in Uzbekistan reached 45.3%, compared to 33.6% in the same period last year, according to data from the Ministry of Energy of the republic.
Total electricity consumption in the country stood at 11,365 MW against a total generation of 11,728 MW. Renewable energy sources accounted for 5,310 MW, which is 1,585 MW, or 42.6%, higher than the figures recorded a year earlier.
The growth in generation from renewable sources reduced the load on thermal power plants (TPPs). Generation from thermal power plants decreased from 7,243 MW to 6,293 MW, and natural gas consumption at thermal stations dropped by 293,000 cubic meters to 1,272,000 cubic meters.
The ministry emphasized that large-scale energy reforms implemented at the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan, alongside the attraction of major investments into solar energy and energy storage systems, are already yielding tangible results. Green energy not only provides additional volumes of electricity but also contributes to natural gas savings, strengthens the country's energy security, and reduces environmental impact.
