Tashkent to discuss issues of accession or implementation of the provisions of the Convention on Nuclear Safety
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - A national seminar, organized by the State Industrial Safety Committee and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), on the issues of accession or implementation of the provisions of the Convention on Nuclear Safety (Vienna, 1994) will be held on 21-23 January.
The seminar is attended by leading IAEA experts in the field of nuclear safety and more than 40 representatives of interested ministries and departments.
The 3-day workshop includes reports and discussions aimed at clarifying the essence of the mentioned Convention, ensuring the effective implementation of its provisions and implementation, competent organization of the preparation of a national report on its implementation, public familiarization with the results of its implementation.
The accession of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Convention on Nuclear Safety is envisaged by the Roadmap for the implementation of the Concept for the Development of Nuclear Energy in the Republic of Uzbekistan for the period 2019-2029, approved by Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated February 7, 2019 No. PP-4165.
Expected results under this Convention:
- strengthening national control over exceeding the established national dose limits to ensure the population so that the radiation dose to personnel and the population created by the nuclear installation is maintained at a reasonably achievable low level;
- safe, well-regulated and environmentally sound use of nuclear energy;
- familiarization of the world community through the submission of a national report on measures that the state has taken to implement the obligations set forth in the Convention, transparency and efficiency of the process of regulation by the state of the safe and peaceful use of nuclear energy.
