Labor Inspectorate Warns Samarkand Hokim Over Forced Labor

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The State Labor Inspectorate of Uzbekistan has issued a warning to the Hokim of the Samarkand region, Adiz Boboev, in connection with an initiative to involve the professor and teaching staff of higher educational institutions in street improvement and monitoring activities. The inspectorate reminded that current legislation prohibits the forced involvement of pedagogical workers in activities not related to their professional duties. In the case of the practical implementation of such an initiative, it could be qualified as forced labor.

The warning addressed to the hokim states that involving educators in work that falls outside the scope of their professional responsibilities contradicts the legislation, and legal liability is provided for such violations.

The inspectorate emphasized that during the implementation of any initiatives, it is necessary to strictly observe the requirements of current legislation and ensure the protection of the rights and legitimate interests of pedagogical workers.
