Khorezm Public Transport Switches Fully to Electronic Payment

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Public transport fares in the Khorezm region will be completely transitioned into an electronic format following a decision made by the regional khokim.

As explained by the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan, the innovation aims to improve the overall quality of services provided, ensure full transparency of financial flows, eradicate the shadow economy through the integration of digital technologies, and encourage the population to actively use electronic payment systems.

The transition to the new payment system will be implemented in two stages. Under the first stage, which begins on 1 July 2026, cashless payment will become mandatory on urban bus routes No. ShI-4, ShI-5, ShI-7, ShI-13, ShI-18, ShI-19, and ShI-28. At the same stage, changes will affect intercity transport, with payments being accepted exclusively in electronic form on trolleybus route No. T1, which connects the cities of Urgench and Khiva.

The second stage of digitalization will cover all remaining bus and trolleybus routes in the region. The transition of the remaining passenger transport to a strictly cashless form of payment collection will be carried out immediately after the completion of procedures for registering gross contracts in accordance with the procedure established by law. Following this, cash will be completely removed from circulation in the region's public transport.
