GEROPHARM Receives Halal Certification for Diabetes Drugs

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Pharmaceutical company GEROPHARM has received halal certification for its medicines used to treat diabetes and obesity. The certification was issued by the International Halal Standardization and Certification Center under the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation.

The certification was granted to Sejaro® (tirzepatide), Semavic® (semaglutide) and Semavic Next® (semaglutide).

Semavic® and Semavic Next® are already available on the pharmaceutical market in Uzbekistan and can be obtained from pharmacies with a doctor's prescription.

Halal status is granted to medicines only after confirmation that they comply with religious requirements. This includes the absence of prohibited substances such as ethanol, blood, and pig-derived cells and tissues. Medicines produced using cells from animals not slaughtered according to Islamic practices also do not qualify as halal.

According to the company, the medicines are manufactured using peptide synthesis technology, which eliminates the use of animal-derived components and ensures compliance with halal standards.

For Uzbekistan, where the majority of the population practices Islam, compliance of medicines with religious requirements is regarded as an important factor in treatment decisions. The company said the certification is expected to enable doctors and patients to use modern therapies while taking religious considerations into account.

GEROPHARM previously became the first company in Russia to receive certification confirming that its insulin products comply with Islamic standards. The same standard has now been extended to its product range for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and weight management.

Chief Executive Officer Pyotr Rodionov said it is important for the company to take into account patients' lifestyles and beliefs, adding that the certification confirms the medicines' compliance with strict Islamic requirements and supports a careful approach to treatment.

GEROPHARM is an international manufacturer of biotechnology medicines and operates in accordance with GxP standards.

The company supplies its products to 14 countries and has been present in the Uzbek market for more than 20 years.
