Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Canada earned the first World Cup point in its history after drawing 1-1 with Bosnia and Herzegovina in a Group B match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup being held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The match, played in Toronto, ended level at 1-1. The result allowed Canada to collect its first point in the final stage of a World Cup. The national team previously competed at the 1986 and 2022 tournaments but lost all six matches it played.

Bosnia and Herzegovina took the lead in the 21st minute through Jovo Lukic. The goal was the striker’s first for the national team in his fourth appearance.

Canada equalised in the second half when Kyle Larin scored in the 78th minute. The forward found the net with his first touch after coming on as a substitute.

In the second round of group-stage matches on 18 June, Canada will face Qatar in Vancouver, while Bosnia and Herzegovina will take on Switzerland in Inglewood, United States.

The 2026 World Cup is the first in history to feature 48 national teams and is being hosted across three countries. The tournament will conclude with the final on 19 July, with Argentina defending the title.
