Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Canadian writer Anne Carson has been awarded the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature. The prize was awarded for her bold and innovative work, which creates new forms of contemporary literature through a distinctive dialogue with the classical tradition. The Nobel Committee said.
According to the committee, Carson’s literary work has developed over many years alongside her work in translation and university teaching.
The Nobel Committee highlighted the distinctive nature of her creative approach, noting her consistent combination of a deep interest in language with a poetic drive to discover new meanings.
Carson has thus become the latest recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature following Hungarian writer László Krasznahorkai, who received the award in 2025.
The 2026 Nobel Prize laureates are being announced from 5 to 12 October. In addition to literature, winners in several other categories have already been announced.
The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to Karl Deisseroth, Peter Hegemann and Georg Nagel for their creation of optogenetics.
Francis Halzen was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for the discovery of cosmic neutrinos.
The 2026 Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to Henri Kagan and Kenso Soai for a discovery in organic synthesis.
