Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Uzbek folk dance "Andijan polka" has been officially entered into the Guinness World Records for the largest performance of a national dance in the world. The record was set at the Babur Arena stadium in Andijan, where 20,000 people simultaneously performed the dance. The press service of the Andijan region khokimiyat announced the achievement.
An official representative of the Guinness World Records organization was personally present at the event and confirmed that it fully complied with all established requirements, after which the record was officially registered.
The event took place on the day Andijan was proclaimed the cultural capital of the Turkic world for 2026.
The "Andijan polka" is an Uzbek folk dance and a musical melody of the same name, characterized by a fast tempo and expressive hand movements. Initially, the dance was performed by men, but over time it gained widespread popularity among women as well.
Andijan is one of the oldest cities in Central Asia, located in the east of the Ferghana Valley. The city is approximately 2,500 years old, and in its time, it played an important role on the Great Silk Road. Today, it is a major administrative, economic, and cultural center of Uzbekistan.
