Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Qatar, Ashraf Khodjaev, has been accredited as the republic's first ambassador to Ethiopia. He will combine this diplomatic mission with his primary role, remaining a resident ambassador in Doha. His credentials were submitted to the President of Ethiopia, Taye Atske-Selassie, according to the Dunyo news agency.

The Ethiopian head of state warmly received the Uzbek diplomat and expressed confidence that bilateral relations between the two nations will continue to develop systematically and that practical cooperation will expand.

During the meeting, Khodjaev conveyed greetings to the President of Ethiopia from the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and emphasized Tashkent's readiness for mutually beneficial economic cooperation.

Uzbekistan and Ethiopia have maintained diplomatic relations since 15 July 1996. An electronic visa is available for citizens of Uzbekistan to enter the country.

Ashraf Khodjaev was appointed ambassador to Qatar in February 2024, heading the embassy in Doha immediately after its opening in December 2023. Since October 2025, the diplomat has concurrently represented the interests of Uzbekistan in the Republic of South Africa.
