Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed projects in the leather and footwear small industrial zone in Altynkul district during his visit to Andijan Region. A unified production complex is being developed there, covering raw material processing, manufacturing and sales of finished products.
Deep processing of leather raw materials, increasing the production of export-oriented goods and supplying the domestic market with quality footwear have been identified as priorities for the sector. One of the legal foundations for these efforts was a presidential resolution aimed at further stimulating the development and increasing the export potential of the leather, footwear and fur industries.
The industrial complex covers 10.1 hectares, while the total value of the projects being implemented reaches US$28 million. Production buildings, a dual education center and commercial facilities have been constructed on 5.5 hectares of the site.
Seventeen projects with a combined production capacity of 150 billion soums are being implemented in the industrial zone. Ten enterprises specialize in footwear and sole production, two in artificial leather and another two in footwear adhesives. Other projects involve the production of rubber footwear, uppers for specialized footwear and leather.
The complex has currently created 2,500 new jobs. Its products are supplied to the markets of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.
Specialists who completed advanced training in Türkiye, China and Italy have been involved in the production process to improve product quality. The knowledge they acquired is being used to increase the competitiveness of local manufacturing.
Additional support measures are being provided to entrepreneurs in the sector. In particular, production buildings and facilities constructed at their request are sold with payment installments of up to seven years.
The president reviewed product samples and familiarized himself with the economic indicators and export potential of the projects. During discussions with entrepreneurs, he gave recommendations on improving product quality, developing modern designs and expanding export destinations.
Officials were also instructed to combine local footwear-making traditions with modern industrial technologies and continue efforts to improve working conditions in the sector.
