Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s delegation was officially welcomed in Tashkent after a successful performance at the 20th Asian Summer Games, held in Japan’s Aichi Prefecture and the city of Nagoya.

Athletes were welcomed at Islam Karimov Tashkent International Airport by government representatives led by Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov, as well as officials from the Ministry of Sports, the National Olympic Committee and the Paralympic Committee of Uzbekistan, the Tashkent city administration, members of the sporting community and supporters.

At the ceremony, Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov congratulated the Uzbek delegation on the historic result achieved at the 20th Asian Games.

The athletes also received congratulations from the President of Uzbekistan, which highlighted their worthy participation in the prestigious competition, high level of skill and honourable representation of their country.

Speaking on behalf of the athletes, Asian Games champions Barnokhon Saifullayeva and Turabek Habibullayev thanked the state for its strong attention to supporting the sports sector, athletes and coaches. They pledged to continue doing everything possible to raise the Uzbek flag on the international stage. Parents of athletes who achieved strong results at the Games also spoke at the event.

Results: 70 medals and fifth place overall

Uzbekistan’s delegation won 21 gold, 25 silver and 24 bronze medals at the 20th Asian Summer Games, for a total of 70 medals. This result placed Uzbekistan fifth in the overall standings and first among Central Asian countries.

A total of 10,608 athletes from 45 Asian countries took part in the Games. Uzbek representatives achieved strong results across a wide range of sports.

Records and historic victories

Weightlifter Akbar Jorayev set a world record in the snatch with a result of 197 kilograms and also broke the Asian record.

In shooting, Vladimir Svechnikov set an Asian Games record in the 10-metre air pistol event with a score of 244.3 points.

In athletics, Barnokhon Saifullayeva won gold in the high jump with a result of 1.90 metres.

In judo, Muzaffarbek Turoboyev won gold after a strong performance. In the quarterfinals, he defeated Paris 2024 Olympic medallist Kim Min-jong, while in the final he beat Japan’s Ota Hyoga.

Abdulvakhhob Rashidov, Utkir Jorayev, Shokhsanam Sherzodova, Sharifa Davronova, Shakhzod Nurmatov, Sobir Safaraliyev, Sukhrob Khojayev, Shakhriyor Makhkamov, Ibodathon Agodzhonova, Shokhrukhjon Bakhtiyorov, Akhror Ziyodullayev, Pokizakhon Kamoliddinova, Sita Kadamboyeva, Aitjan Khalmakhanov, Abdulmalik Khalokov, Jasurbek Jaysunov, Takhmina Ikramova and other athletes also made significant contributions to the delegation’s successful performance.
