Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and UN Tourism have agreed to jointly prepare the official opening ceremony of the “2027 International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism,” the Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan said.
The agreement was reached at a meeting between Tourism Committee Chairman Abdullaziz Akkulov and UN Tourism Secretary-General Shaikha Nasser Al Nuaiss in the United Arab Emirates.
The sides discussed further strengthening strategic cooperation, promoting sustainable tourism principles, improving the competitiveness of tourism destinations, developing human capital, and expanding international and regional cooperation.
Particular attention was paid to preparations for the official opening of the International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism.
The ceremony is planned to be held in Tashkent in November 2026 as part of the Tashkent International Tourism Fair “Tourism on the Silk Road.”
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed holding the opening ceremony in Uzbekistan on 1 April 2026 during a meeting with the leadership of UN Tourism.
Following the talks, the sides signed an Agreement on holding the official opening ceremony of the International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism. The document establishes the legal and organizational framework for preparing the event and coordinating relevant measures between Uzbekistan and UN Tourism.
Holding the ceremony in Tashkent is expected to promote the principles of sustainable and resilient tourism internationally and strengthen Uzbekistan’s participation in shaping the global tourism agenda.
During the meeting, Shaikha Nasser Al Nuaiss also said that the development of a Safe Tourism Code, initiated by the head of state, is under her personal supervision.
According to her, work with countries and international experts on this initiative is currently being accelerated.
