Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s U-23 national football team finished the group stage of the 20th Asian Summer Games in Aichi-Nagoya at the top of Group C after beating Vietnam 2-0 in their final match.
The match was played on 22 September at Paloma Mizuho Rugby Stadium in Nagoya in front of 4,134 spectators. Uzbekistan opened the scoring in the fifth minute through Urinboev. The team added a second goal in the second half, with Ibraimov finding the net in the 67th minute.
Uzbekistan collected nine points from three matches, recording three wins. The team completed the group stage unbeaten with a goal difference of +8 to finish first ahead of Vietnam, the Philippines and Kuwait.
In the Asian Games quarterfinals, Uzbekistan will face Saudi Arabia, which finished second in Group D. In their final group-stage match, Saudi Arabia lost 0-2 to the Republic of Korea.
The quarterfinal between Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia will take place on 25 September at 10:00 Tashkent time at Mizuho Stadium in Nagoya.
