Uzbekistan to Take Part in International Space Summit in Paris

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan will participate in the International Space Summit, which will be held in Paris on 9–10 September.

The event will bring together representatives of various countries, international and regional organizations, the scientific community and the private sector to discuss current issues facing the space industry.

The summit will be co-chaired by France and Germany. Its agenda will cover a wide range of issues related to the space economy, security, science, the environment, regulation, Europe’s role and global governance of space activities.

France holds a special position in Europe’s space sector due to its leading national infrastructure, including the Guiana Space Centre, as well as its space industry, which accounts for about half of the European space sector’s turnover.

The country’s scientific capacity and extensive network of international cooperation enable it to play a leading role in shaping European space policy focused on autonomous, sustainable and competitive access to space.

One of the reference points for the summit will be the 1967 Outer Space Treaty, which is regarded as the foundation of international space law. The event will take place ahead of the World Radiocommunication Conference and UNISPACE IV, a conference dedicated to the exploration and peaceful uses of outer space.

The summit’s program includes four main areas. Participants will discuss space security, including the importance of dialogue, defense and partnerships, as well as the preservation of the space environment, the sustainability of space activities and ensuring free access to space.

Particular attention will be paid to the competitiveness of space services and their long-term development in the interests of the global economy. Other topics will include new economic opportunities in the space industry and the challenges of consolidating the sector at the European level.

Another area will focus on global and responsible governance of outer space. Organizers stress that space is a common heritage and should not become an area outside the scope of legal norms.

The fourth theme concerns the role of space in scientific research, the study of the universe and technological development, as well as its importance in inspiring and mobilizing young people.

The event at Paris’s Grand Palais is expected to bring together more than 2,000 participants and 100 foreign delegations.

They will include heads of state and government, representatives of international and regional organizations, parliamentarians, scientists, military personnel, astronauts, private-sector representatives, civil society, local authorities and development banks.

Uzbekistan will be represented at the summit as a participant in the space sector.
