Uzbekistan to Purchase 10 Škoda Electric Trains
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — An agreement has been signed between the suburban passenger transport operator LLC “Shahar Atrofida Yo‘lovchi Tashish,” a structure of Uzbekistan Railways, and Czech company Škoda Transportation for the supply of 10 modern electric trains for Uzbekistan.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the Tashkent International Investment Forum.
The deal is aimed at modernizing railway infrastructure and renewing the rolling stock fleet using modern technologies. Its implementation is expected to improve the quality and comfort of passenger transport and bring services in line with international standards of safety and energy efficiency.
According to the parties, the new electric trains will be equipped with modern control systems and air conditioning, providing a higher level of passenger comfort on suburban routes.
A key component of the project is the establishment of a joint venture in Uzbekistan for the maintenance of rolling stock. This will allow service operations to be carried out domestically, create new jobs, and strengthen the country’s industrial base in the sector.
The agreement is also seen as a step toward further development of transport cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Czech Republic.
